Brooke Pelloni had a team-high 10 kills, but Walsh (OH) erased a one-set deficit with three straight wins to secure a 3-1 victory over Pitt-Johnstown in Saturday's third round of the Frostburg State Tournament in Frostburg, MD. The Mountain Cats are now 2-1.
After Pitt-Johnstown handed Walsh its first set loss of the season, 25-23, to begin the match, the Cavaliers bounced back with 25-12, 25-14, and 25-16 wins to close it out.
Along with Pelloni's 10 kills, the Mountain Cats also got six kills and 19 digs from
Lualis Alvarado, four kills and four digs from
Mallory Pinske, and three kills from
Dannika Susko.
Adiamar Beaz collected four kills from her setter position, to go along with 24 set assists ands 16 digs.
Gabi DeRenzo led Pitt-Johnstown wit 26 digs, while
Jessica Krug and
Karin Ilagan tallied seven digs apiece.
Walsh, which wrapped-up the tournament at 4-0, got a match-high 15 kills from Sammie DeBease and 11 kills and a match-high 27 digs from Keanna Avery.
Pitt-Johnstown closes out the Frostburg State Tournament against the hosts at 7 p.m., before traveling to the West Chester Tournament next weekend. Pitt-Johnstown will make its 2023 home debut with a PSAC match against Seton Hill on Sept. 22.
