Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Neidig, Mountain Cats edge Cal (PA) for first victory

California, PA

Haley Neidig has proven to be the offensive catalyst thus far for the women's soccer program.

Against California (PA), she put together another memorable performance by notching a goal in each half to power the Mountain Cats to their first victory of the season, a 2-1 decision over the Vulcans on Wednesday at Phillipsburg Soccer Facility.

Megan Giesey handled all 90 minutes in goal and recorded a pair of saves as Pitt-Johnstown improved to 1-5-1.

Neidig registered her fourth tally of the season in the 14th minute when she beat Cal goalkeeper Emily Ouimet to the bottom left corner of the net to make it 1-0. Ouimet went the distance in the net, facing nine shots and collecting five saves for the Vulcans, who dropped to 2-3-1.

Cal eventually responded in the 51st minute thanks to Lorina Romeis scoring her second goal of the season with the help of an assist from Christyana Sims.

But Neidig became the hero in the 69th minute after taking a pass from Abby Jackson, crossing over into the box and burying a shot past Ouimet to give Pitt-Johnstown a 2-1 advantage that it never let slip away over the final 20-plus minutes.

The Mountain Cats will seek back-to-back wins when they host Edinboro on Saturday at 1 p.m.
