Dietz, Mountain Cats scratch out draw with Edinboro

Johnstown, PA

Although Pitt-Johnstown scratched the scoreboard first, a win was not to be as the Mountain Cats settled for a 1-1 draw with Edinboro on a rainy Saturday afternoon at the Pitt-Johnstown Soccer Field. The Mountain Cats now sit at 1-5-2 on the year.

Megan Dietz opened the scoring late in the 24th minute after taking a pass from Sophia Lamesta and burying a shot in the top left corner of the net past Edinboro goalkeeper Kaylee Lauriel.

Dietz tied a match-high with three shots on goal, while Lamesta registered a season-high four shots.

But the Scots answered a little more than four minutes later after Emily Vogel scored with help from Teaghan Watkins, who was credited with the assist.

Both squads struggled to obtain quality scoring chances in what was a quiet second half. Edinboro finished with seven shots on goal, while Pitt-Johnstown had six. But the Mountain Cats outshot the Scots 14-11.

Megan Giesey recorded six saves after handling all 90 minutes in goal for the Mountain Cats.

Pitt-Johnstown has six days off before visiting Mercyhurst next Saturday at 2 p.m.
