
After Saturday's 2023 season-opener against D'Youville was postponed until Oct. 3, the Pitt-Johnstown men's soccer team made the trip to Takoma Park, MD on Sunday to begin the year at Washington Adventist University. The Shock took a 1-0 halftime lead, then added a late goal to hold off the Mountain Cats, 2-0.
Ben Cooksley's unassisted goal 37 minutes into the match gave Washington Adventist the lead, before Thijs Velhorst was able to beat Pitt-Johnstown goalkeeper
Jacob Tichnell with three minutes remaining to set the final at 2-0.
Tichnell faced 14 Shock shots, made five saves, and allowed just goals, while Washington Adventist goalkeeper Gregorio Capponi secured the shutout after seeing nine shots from the Mountain Cats and making four saves.
Washington Adventist improved to 4-1-0.
Pitt-Johnstown visits Shepherd (WV) for a non-conference match on Saturday, before making it's 2023 home debut against Goldey-Beacom (DE) on Sept. 11. Kick-off is scheduled for 4 p.m. at the Pitt-Johnstown Soccer Field.
