Katelyn Rudy's goal early in the second half knotted it at one, but 24
th-ranked Indiana (PA) regained the lead with two late goals to secure a 3-2 PSAC Western Division win over the Pitt-Johnstown women's soccer team, Wednesday afternoon in Indiana. The Mountain Cats, still battling for a spot in the conference tournament, are now 6-5-2 overall and 4-5-2 in conference-play.
Neither team was able to generate much offense in the opening half, but IUP was able to take a narrow, 1-0 lead into the halftime break when Emily Mannion finished an assist from Hannah Scardina in the 35
th minute.
The Mountain Cats answered quickly to tie it on Rudy's unassisted goal just 1:45 into the second half.
However, the Crimson Hawks struck for a pair of goals in a two-time span with less than 15 minutes left to play. Kat Morgan finished a scramble in the box in the 76
th minute to tie it, and Scardina added a goal 1:53 later to give IUP a 3-1 lead.
Pitt-Johnstown, which held a 10-7 advantage in shots, didn't go away and narrowed it to 3-2 on
Nicole Hawk's shot that found the bottom left corner of the net with just over a minute remaining, but that was a close as the Mountain Cats could get.
Emma Morin allowed three goals and made two saves for Pitt-Johnstown, while IUP goalkeeper Makenna Yarrow picked-up the win after making five saves and surrendering two goals.
With the win, the Crimson Hawks are now 8-1-3 overall and 6-1-3 in the PSAC West.
