Slippery Rock, PA

Tichnell, JacobSlippery Rock used a pair of goals in the final 12 minutes to break a scoreless tie on its way to a 2-0 PSAC Western Division win over the Pitt-Johnstown men's soccer team, Saturday afternoon in Slippery Rock.  Jacob Tichnell made seven saves for the Mountain Cats, now 3-10-1 overall and 0-6-1 in conference-play.

The Mountain Cats and Rock locked up in a tight battle throughout the first half.  Tichnell made four saves, while Slippery Rock's Adam Davies made a pair of saves to keep the opening half scoreless over the first 45 minutes.

It stayed that way for much of the second half until Slippery Rock's Jack Smith set up Rasmus Fugl's blast from the lower right side of the box that beat Tichnell and put the Rock on top, 1-0, with just under 12 minutes to play.

Slippery Rock added an insurance goal when Jacob Glancy finished Shaun Spencer's corner kick in the 85th minute to set the final at 2-0.

Tichnell saw 20 shots from the Rock, including 11 in the first half, made the seven saves, but allowed both goals.

Davies was forced to make six saves on eight Mountain Cat shots to earn the shutout and help Slippery Rock improve to 6-4-3 overall and 3-2-2 in the PSAC West.

The Mountain Cats will host a PSAC West match against California (PA) on Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Windber Stadium, before traveling to Seton Hill for a conference match on Saturday.
