
Ryan Kyei Boahen's goal midway through the second half erased a 1-0 Pitt-Johnstown deficit and helped the Mountain Cat soccer team secure a 1-1 PSAC Western Division draw at California (PA), Wednesday evening at Phillipsburg Soccer Facility. The Mountain Cats are now 3-6-1 overall and 0-2-1 in the PSAC West.
Neither team was able to generate much offense in the early going, but Cal U was able to take a 1-0 lead into the halftime break when Eloi Vellvehi beat Mountain Cat goalkeeper
PJ Derksen to the upper right corner off of a free kick with just 1:43 remaining.
It stayed that way until the 66
th minute when Pitt-Johnstown knotted it at one on Kyei Boahen's unassisted goal.
Derksen was able to keep the Vulcans off the scoreboard the rest of the way to preserve the draw. Derksen faced 13 shots, made five saves, and allowed just one goal.
Cal U goalkeeper Kiernan Webb saw six shots from the Mountain Cats, made one save, and surrendered one goal.
The Vulcans are now 2-4-4 overall and 0-2-2 in conference-play.
Pitt-Johnstown returns home to host a PSAC West match against Slippery Rock on Wednesday at Windber Stadium, before traveling to Erie for a conference match against nationally-ranked Gannon on Oct. 19.
