A dominant second quarter helped steer Pitt-Johnstown to its first win of the season in a 82-68 triumph over Davis & Elkins on Saturday afternoon in West Virginia.
It also marked the first victory in the head coaching career of new Pitt-Johnstown coach D'wan Shackleford-Vickroy.
Sophomore Belle Bosch contributed a game-high 19 points and pulled down nine rebounds. Junior transfer Liv West notched a double-double with 18 points and a game-high 10 rebounds. Junior Lexi Margolis hit a pair of 3-pointers and finished with 12 points. Sophomore Camille Dominick added 11 points and six boards in 23 minutes off the bench.
After a bumpy first quarter where scoring came at a premium, the Mountain Cats rose to the occasion in the second by connecting on four 3-pointers and holding the Senators to just nine points.
Bosch tied the game at 25-all with 6:22 remaining in the half before Camille Dominick drilled a triple that gave the Mountain Cats a 28-25 lead that they would never relinquish. Bosch's jumper at the buzzer helped Pitt-Johnstown take a 36-30 lead into the locker room.
It was much of the same in the second half as the Mountain Cats posted 29 points in the third, their highest scoring quarter of the season to this point.
The Mountain Cats finished 48.1% (25-for-52) from the field and built a 36-27 rebounding advantage. The Senators dropped to 0-4 on the year.
Pitt-Johnstown will host Saginaw State on Monday at 4 p.m. in the Sports Center.
