Volleyball Earns No. 6 Seed For NCAA Regional Tournament; Will Take on No. 3 Wheeling in Quarterfinals

Head Coach Justin Haupt's Pitt-Johnstown volleyball team, 19-9 on the season, will compete in its second straight and sixth overall NCAA Division II Regional Tournament after earning the No. 6 seed in the Atlantic Region when this year's field was released, Monday evening.  The Mountain Cats will take on third-seeded Wheeling (WV), the Mountain East Conference Tournament Runner-up, in the quarterfinals on Dec. 5 in Erie. 
 
This year's Atlantic Region Tournament will take place Dec. 5-7 and will be hosted by top-seeded Gannon University at Cathedral Prep's Hagerty Family Events Center.
   
Eight eight-team regionals will be played at on-campus sites. Regional competition will be single-elimination, best three-of-five-set matches and will not include a third-place match. The winners of each of the eight regionals will advance to the NCAA finals, Dec. 12-14, at the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Fall, S.D.  Competition at the finals site will be single-elimination, best three-of-five-set matches.

Hosted by Gannon University – Dec. 5-7
No. 1 Gannon (23-7) vs. No. 8 Shaw (NC) (29-4)
No. 4 Clarion (15-13) vs. No. 5 West Virginia State (23-9)
No. 2 Indiana (PA) (23-8) vs. No. 7 Shepherd (WV) (24-5)
No. 3 Wheeling (WV) (25-10) vs. No. 6 Pitt-Johnstown (19-9)
 
The Regional Quarterfinals matches are scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 5, with the semifinals are on Friday, Dec. 6., and the Atlantic Regional Championship Match on Saturday, Dec. 7.
 
The winner of the Pitt-Johnstown-Wheeling match will take on the winner of the No. 2 Indiana (PA)-No. 7 Shepherd match in the Atlantic Region Semifinals on Friday, December 6.
 
Pitt-Johnstown and Wheeling last met on Sept. 15, 2023, and the Cardinals earned a 3-0 win.  Lualis Alvarado and Natalie Lippincott each had 10 kills for the Mountain Cats, while Tylah Yeomans' match-high 18 kills paced Wheeling.
