The Pitt-Johnstown volleyball team will celebrate Senior Weekend in the Sports Center with PSAC West Matches against California (PA) on Friday at 6 p.m. and Seton Hill on Saturday at noon.
 
Head Coach Justin Haupt and the Mountain Cat volleyball program will recognize this year senior before Saturday's match against the Griffins…Lualis Alvarado, Adiamar Beaz, Chloe Bidelman, Gabriella DeRenzo, Ashley Feorene, and Karin Ilagan.
 
Pitt-Johnstown squad enters Senior Weekend at 16-8 overall and 3-7 in the PSAC West. After sweeping a non-conference match from Shippensburg last Tuesday, the Mountain Cats suffered a 3-0 conference loss at Gannon last Friday and a five-set loss at Edinboro on Saturday.
 
California (PA), under first-year Head Coach Audrey Emerich is 3-17 overall and 0-11 in the PSAC West after suffering losses to Seton Hill and Slippery Rock last week.
 
Since 2013, Pitt-Johnstown holds a slim, 9-8 advantage in the series.  The Mountain Cats have won three straight over the Vulcans, including a 3-0 sweep in California on Oct. 12.  Lualis Alvarado had a match-high 12 kills and Mallory Pinske added 10 kills to lead the Mountain Cats.  Sophia Johnson and Allie Droneberger each finished with seven kills to lead Cal U.
 
Seton Hill, under 40th-year Head Coach Rick Hall was 18-6 overall and 7-4 in the PSAC West before Friday's match against Clarion.
 
Since 2007, Pitt-Johnstown and Seton Hill have split 24 matches.  On Oct. 11, the Griffins picked up a 3-1, victory in Greensburg behind 24 kills from Paige Cole and 18 kills from Catie Flohr. Alvarado collected 14 kills, and Mallory Pinske and Ellie Zuro added 11 kills apiece to pace the Mountain Cats.
 
Pitt-Johnstown will close out the 2024 regular season with home matches against Indiana (PA) on Friday and Clarion next Saturday.
