Pitt-Johnstown remained in the fight late into the fourth quarter before succumbing to Frostburg State in a 63-59 loss on Saturday afternoon at the Jim Crawley Conference Challenge.
The Mountain Cats (0-2) fell short in the closing minutes for the second straight day after the Bobcats scored 10 of the final 13 points to hold them off.
Sophomore Belle Bosch once again paced the Mountain Cats with team-highs of 17 points and nine rebounds. Lexi Margolis tallied 10 points and six rebounds. Hayden Keith supplied nine points, while Camille Dominick recorded eight points and five rebounds in 21 minutes off the bench.
Margolis drilled a 3-pointer to tie the game at 51-all with 5:18 remaining. About a minute later, Keith knocked down a triple to put the Mountain Cats in front 56-53. The Bobcats responded with eight straight points to forge ahead.
Liv West scored her second bucket of the game on a layup with 51 seconds left to cut the deficit to three. Bosch went 1-for-2 at the free-throw line 11 seconds later, but a turnover allowed Frostburg State to hit two free throws to seal it with just 16 seconds left.
Dominick's jumper in the waning seconds gave the Mountain Cats a 19-14 advantage after a first quarter where they shot 7-of-16 from the field and connected on four 3-pointers.
Pitt-Johnstown led by as many as seven in the second quarter before taking a 34-31 lead into the break.
Each team scored 26 points in the paint. Emilee Weakley totaled game-highs of 31 points and 10 rebounds for Frostburg State (2-0).
The Mountain Cats will host Wheeling in a non-conference matchup on Wednesday at 6 p.m. in the Sports Center.
