Mountain Cats undone by late Minnesota-Crookston rally

Winter Park, Fla.

Pitt-Johnstown carried a narrow lead into the late stages, but three runs from Minnesota-Crookston in its half of the sixth sent the Mountain Cats to a 6-4 loss in the second of a two games on Sunday.

The Mountain Cats recorded 10 total hits before eventually falling to 0-4 on the season.

Freshman Addison Hilligsberg suffered the tough luck loss in the circle after surrendering six runs, four earned, and scattering 12 hits over all six innings of work.

Senior Kayla Miehl and freshman Isabella DePalma each went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Tori Radvan provided two hits and scored a run. Jenna Tallman, Meghan McDonough, Brynnae Coe and Krista Brunson all had a hit and drew a walk.

The most productive inning for the Mountain Cats came in the third when they scored a pair of runs to take back the lead.

Miehl and Radvan each singled to lead off the frame before DePalma smacked an RBI single to score pinch-runner Shaylin Hagerman and tie the game at 3-all. After advancing to third on the hit, Radvan came around to score on a wild pitch to make it 4-3.

It remained that way until the bottom of the sixth when the Golden Eagles racked up three hits and capitalized on a pair of errors to tally three runs and grab a 6-4 advantage. DePalma singled with one out in the seventh, but Pitt-Johnstown could not mount a last-gasp comeback.

Tallman walked to open the game and moved to second on McDonough's sacrifice. Miehl paid that off with a two-out RBI single to give the Mountain Cats a brief 1-0 lead. Coe singled with one out in the second before Brunson walked and Hannah Gnibus was hit by a pitch to load the bases. McDonough worked a bases-loaded walk to score Coe and knot it at 2-2.

The Mountain Cats continue their weeklong Florida trip with a doubleheader on Monday against No. 8 Indianapolis at 10:15 a.m. followed by a meeting with Southern Connecticut State at 12:30 p.m.
