Audrey Paterson's walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the seventh was the final blow that erased a four-run deficit and lifted Pitt-Johnstown to a 6-5 victory over Saint Michael's in the second of two games on Tuesday.
Nine different players recorded at least one hit as the Mountain Cats won for the third straight time during their weeklong Florida trip and improved to 3-5 on the season in entertaining fashion.
Freshman Addison Hilligsberg notched her first career win in the circle after scattering nine hits and racking up four strikeouts in a complete game effort.
Freshman Meghan McDonough singled to lead off the seventh and moved to second with one out after Kayla Miehl drew a walk. They both moved into scoring position on a wild pitch.
The Mountain Cats were down to their final out before Charles' clutch two-RBI single knotted the game at 5-5. Gnibus walked, and pinch-runner Alexis Hrivnak, who checked in for Charles, scored the game-winning run when Paterson slapped a single up the middle.
Pitt-Johnstown entered the sixth down 5-1 before methodically beginning to chip away. Tori Radvan singled and was replaced on the base paths by pinch-runner Sydney Mitchell. Izzy DePalma singled one batter later, and Hannah Gnibus checked back in as a courtesy runner.
Brynnae Coe smacked a ground-rule double down the left field line to bring home Mitchell. Jenna Tallman singled with two outs to push home Gnibus and make it 5-3. Coe and Charles each supplied two hits to lead the way. Paterson's single was her only at-bat of the game.
The Mountain Cats will have Wednesday off before playing two games on Thursday starting at 10:15 a.m. against Lewis (IL) followed by a matchup with Northern State (SD) at 3:15 p.m.
