Ben Tomb and
Austin Hammerle combined to hold Indiana (PA) scoreless on four hits in a 2-0 win to open Saturday's PSAC Western Division Senior Day doubleheader at Point Stadium. The Mountain Cats, 17-27 overall and 7-17 in conference-play, completed the sweep over the Western Division leading Crimson Hawks with a 2-1 victory in the nightcap on a bases loaded walk-off walk in the bottom of the seventh.
Between games of Saturday's doubleheader, the Pitt-Johnstown baseball program recognized seven seniors…
Alex Glumac,
Austin Hammerle,
Jared Hoener,
Alec Petroff,
Garrett Prosper,
Zachary Ramach, and
Josh Reynolds.
In the opener, Pitt-Johnstown broke a scoreless tie with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth.
Devon Boyles scored from third on a Jake Black wild pitch, and Ramach's two-out single to left chased home
Justin Turcovski to make it 2-0.

IUP put runners on second and third with nobody out in the top of the seventh, but
Austin Hammerle was able to work out of the jam to secure his first save of the season and preserve the with for
Ben Tomb.
Tomb got the start and held the Crimson Hawks scoreless on just two hits over the first five innings. He struck out three and walked one. Hammerle pitched the final two innings and allowed two hits and fanned three.
Ramach had an RBI single for the Mountain Cats, while
Alex Glumac,
Alex Ebeling, and
Garrett Prosper accounted for the other three hits.
In game two, neither team was able to plate a run until the top of the sixth when Elijah Dunn's single off the screen in left field chased home Ricardo Aponte from second to give the Crimson Hawks a 1-0 advantage.
The Mountain Cats answered right back to tie it on Boyles' base hit to left that scored
Joey Maun in the bottom of the frame.
Pitt-Johnstown then loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh and Maun drew a one-out bases loaded walk off of IUP reliever Dane Samartino that forced home Reynolds with the walk-off, game-winning run.
Alec Petroff picked up the win in relief of starter
Brandon Clifford and improved to 2-0 after striking out a pair in a perfect top of the seventh. Clifford threw six strong innings in the no-decision. Clifford allowed just one run on three hits, while striking out four and walking two.
With the losses, the Crimson Hawks slipped to 28-12 overall and 16-8 in the PSAC West.
Pitt-Johnstown will visit Bloomsburg for a non-conference game on Tuesday, before closing out the 2024 season schedule with a PSAC doubleheader against California (PA) on Thursday at 1 p.m. at Point Stadium and a pair of games against the Vulcans in Washington, Pa. on Friday.
