Mountain Cats drop a pair to Seton Hill

Johnstown, PA

Pitt-Johnstown's bats were held in check for the vast majority of the afternoon, and it led to 13-4 and 11-1 losses in a PSAC doubleheader opposite of Seton Hill on Saturday afternoon at Point Stadium.

After severe weather gave the Mountain Cats an extended layoff, they were limited to just 11 hits in the two games and dropped to 13-15 overall with a 4-6 mark in the PSAC West. The Griffins continued their winning ways and moved to 19-9 and 6-4 in the conference.

The Mountain Cats were down just 2-0 heading into the fourth before the Griffins batted around and broke the game open with a four-spot on three hits.

Rodney Shultz (1-3) was tagged with the loss after throwing 3.2 innings, giving up six runs on six hits with four walks and four strikeouts. Antonio Caporossi, Alec Petroff and Jared Hoener combined to surrender eight runs on seven hits in relief.

Devon Boyles finished 2-for-3 and scored a run as part of the Mountain Cats' four-run seventh inning off Seton Hill reliever Jack Pletcher to break up the shutout. Alex Glumac had a single in the inning, Erik Rhodes worked a walk and Josh Ulery smacked a double to drive both of them in.

Max Mandler went 4-for-4 with a two-run home run and three RBIs for the Griffins.

Seton Hill took advantage of a fielding error to notch a run in the first inning of game two to grab a lead it would never relinquish. The Griffins scored a combined three runs in the third and fourth innings off starter Ben Tomb to end his day.

Tomb took the loss after surrendering four runs—three earned—on four hits to go along with five walks and five strikeouts. Zach Myers gave up four runs on four hits in an inning of relief and Roman Donis threw two innings and allowed three runs on two hits.

Jon McCullough threw six innings, giving up a run on five hits to pick up the win for Seton Hill.

Garrett Prosper doubled to lead off the fifth and later came around to score the Mountain Cats' only run of the game on Glumac's RBI double. Glumac closed the nightcap with a 3-for-3 performance.

The Mountain Cats will finish up the season-series with the Griffins on Sunday with a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. from the Seton Hill Baseball Complex.
