Four Mountain Cats Named to All-PSAC Baseball Teams; Shultz, Ulery Earn First-Team Honors

Pitt-Johnstown boasted four players named to All-PSAC Western Division Baseball teams, including junior starting pitcher Rodney Shultz and junior shortstop Josh Ulery, who both garnered first-team honors, when the league office released this year's all-conference teams on Tuesday.  Voting was done by the PSAC baseball coaches.
 
In addition, red-shirt sophomore outfielder Justin Turcovski and sophomore first baseman Devon Boyles earned All-PSAC West Second-team accolades.
 
Shultz, the Division II Baseball Insider National Pitcher of the Week after tossing a no-hitter at Mercyhurst on April 20, was 3-4 with a 5.58 ERA in 61.1 innings.  The Tyrone, Pa. native' team-leading 82 strikeouts ranks second in the PSAC and 21st in NCAA Division II, while his 11.97 strikeouts per nine innings is currently third in the PSAC and 16th nationally.
 
Joining Shultz on the All-PSAC West First-team is Ulery, who led the Mountain Cats in batting average (.313), at-bats (166), runs (37), hits (52), doubles (15), and total bases (85).  Ulery, from Latrobe, Pa., was also second on the team in home runs (4), RBI (38), and slubbing percentage (.512).  He leads the conference and ranks 87th in the country in doubles, and his seven sacrifice flies are first in the PSAC and 10th nationally.
 
Turcovski, a North Huntingdon, Pa. native and Irwin High School graduate, was named to the second-team after batting .260 and leading the Mountain Cats in home runs (6), triples (5), RBI (44), and slugging percentage (.513).  His 39 hits were second behind Ulery, and his 10 doubles were tied for second on the team.  Turcovski paces the PSAC and ranks 21st in Division II in triples and leads the conference and ranks 37th nationally in triples per game at .11.
 
Boyles, a native of Martinsburg, Pa., hit .268 with nine doubles, three triples, two home runs, and 19 RBI on his was to being named to the second team.  His 55 total bases and nine doubles were third on the team, and his 32 runs were tied with Turcovski for third on the team.
 
California (PA) designated hitter Payton Conte was selected PSAC Western Division Athlete of the Year and Slippery Rock's Gage Gillott was named Pitcher of the Year.  In addition, Seton Hill's Owen Mandler was the Freshman of the Year and the Griffins' Marc Marizzaldi was chosen by his peers as the Coach of the Year.
 
In the PSAC Eastern Division, West Chester's Anthony Boccio was named the Athlete of the Year and East Stroudsburg's Brent Francisco was tabbed the Pitcher of the Year, while Zachary McEllroy (Lock Haven) garnered Freshman of the Year honors, and East Stroudsburg's John Kochmansky was selected the Coach of the Year.
