Pitt-Johnstown scratched the scoreboard early and then kept the pressure on the rest of the way to secure a 3-0 non-conference victory over Penn State New Kensington on Tuesday evening.
The Mountain Cats (1-1) evened their record behind junior forward Anson Portzline, who notched his first career multi-goal performance after posting a goal in each half. Josh Sollars made an equally important impact by racking up a career-high three assists.
Portzline broke a scoreless tie and found the back of the net in the 15th minute. He tacked on another for good measure 58 minutes in to make it 3-0 when he beat Penn State New Kensington goalkeeper Kenton Knox.
Redshirt sophomore Jack Moyer tallied his second career goal early in the 51st minute to extend the lead to 2-0.
PJ Derksen spent more than 70 minutes in goal and made a pair of saves. Jacob Tichnell subbed in and racked up four saves over the final 20 minutes to complete the shutout. The Mountain Cats accumulated 38 total shots, 10 of those on goal.
