Pitt-Johnstown asserted itself in the fifth set by scoring nine out of the final 11 points to take a 21-25, 25-15, 25-21, 22-25, 15-6 win over Saint Anselm (NH) to wrap up the 2024 Saint Thomas (NY) Aquinas College Tournament on Saturday afternoon at Fitzgerald Gymnasium.
The Mountain Cats upped their record to a perfect 8-0. Lualis Alvarado, who had 16 kills earlier in the day, supplied another match-high 24 kills to lead the way. She also provided 14 digs and four service aces.
Brooke Pelloni had nine kills, while Natalie Lippincott and Dannika Suska added six apiece. Mallory Pinske chipped in five kills. Adiamar Beaz totaled a match-high 41 assists. Gabi DeRenzo collected a match-high 24 kills. Jessica Krug accumulated 14 digs and matched Alvarado with four service aces.
The Mountain Cats held Saint Anselm to just a .135 hitting percentage and just three kills on 16 attempts in the deciding set.
Pitt-Johnstown will compete in the 2024 IUP Invitational beginning next Friday at 1 p.m. against Chestnut Hill College before playing Shepherd in the nightcap at 7 p.m.
