Flushing, NY

Alvarado, LualisAfter dropping the opening set, Pitt-Johnstown roared back with three straight wins to capture a 20-25, 25-21, 25-18, 25-23 victory over Queens College (NY) on Saturday morning at Fitzgerald Gymnasium in Flushing, New York.

The Mountain Cats moved to 7-0 on the year behind a match-high 16 kills, including six in the fourth set, from senior Lualis Alvarado.

Natalie Lippincott provided 12 kills, three blocks and two aces from the service line. Mallory Pinske added nine kills and a pair of aces. Adiamar Beaz directed the offense by passing out a match-high 47 assists and rattling off four service aces. Gabi DeRenzo racked up a match-high 27 digs, while Jessica Krug chipped in 13.

Despite a lackluster first set, Pitt-Johnstown immediately responded in the second set with a commanding 12-0 run to take control and tie the match. The Mountain Cats never trailed in the third set to go up 2-1.

In the final set where they found themselves down late, the Mountain Cats rattled off four of the last five points after receiving a kill each from Alvarado and Lippincott to put the Knights away.

Pitt-Johnstown will wrap up the 2024 Saint Thomas (NY) Aquinas College Tournament on Saturday afternoon against Saint Anslem (NH).
