
Lualis Alvarado had 16 kills, and
Adiamar Beaz added five kills, 35 assists, and match-highs of five service aces and 24 digs, but Daemen (NY) was able to hold off Pitt-Johnstown, 15-12, in the fifth set to hand the Mountain Cat volleyball team its first loss in 11 outings in Saturday's third round of the IUP Crimson Hawk Classic in Indiana. The Mountain Cats are now, 10-1.
Pitt-Johnstown took the first and third sets, 25-17 and 25-23, while the Wildcats took the second set, 25-19 and four forced a deciding fifth set with a 25-17 win in the fourth set.
Mallory Pinske had seven kills and a team-high three blocks, and
Dannika Susko collected seven kills for the Mountain Cats. Pitt-Johnstown also got six and five kills, respectively from
Brooke Pelloni and
Natalie Lippincott.
Gabriella DeRenzo had 23 digs and three aces,
Jessica Krug had 12 digs, and
Karin Ilagan finished with 10 digs.
Daemen was led by Nahrika Malpica's match-high 24 kills and 20 digs and Giselle Giraud's 18 kills and 18 digs. The Wildcats, who improved to 7-3, also got a dozen kills and a match-high four blocks from Amelia Armstrong and nine kills, nine digs, and a pair of blocks from Avery Craig.
