Lydia Roman’s Goal Leads Women’s Soccer to Season-Opening Win at Davis & Elkins

Roman, LydiaMorin, EmmaLydia Roman found the back of the net with 15 minutes remaining in the first half to lead the Pitt-Johnstown women's soccer team to a 1-0, non-conference victory at Davie & Elkins (WV) to begin the 2024 season on Thursday.  The win also gave Head Coach Aideen O'Donoghue her first collegiate victory at the helm of the Mountain Cat program.
 
Roman's shot from 25 yards out 30 minutes into the opening half beat Davis & Elkins' goalkeeper Monica Burkelund to put the Mountain Cats on top, 1-0.
 
Pitt-Johnstown maintained the narrow advantage over the final 60 minutes of the match, and Emma Morin kept the Senators off the scoreboard to record the shutout in net for the Mountain Cats.
 
Morin faced seven shots from the Senators and was forced to make a pair of saves to preserve the shutout, while Burkelund suffered the loss after seeing nine Mountain Cat shots and allowing the match's lone goal.  Burkelund also made four saves.
 
Pitt-Johnstown will make its 2024 home debut with a non-conference game against West Liberty (WV) on Sunday at 2 p.m. at Richland High School, before opening PSAC West-play against Slippery Rock on Wednesday at 1p.m. at Richland High School.
