James, Tichnell Lead Men’s Soccer to 2-1 PSAC Win at California (PA)

James, JaegerTichnell, JacobJaeger James had a goal and an assist, and Jacob Tichnell made nine saves in goal to lead the Pitt-Johnstown men's soccer team to a 2-1 PSAC Western Division victory at California (PA), Wednesday evening.  The Mountain Cats, who swept the two-game season-series from the Vulcans, are now 7-4-1 overall and 2-3-1 in league-play.
 
After not being able to convert on a penalty kick just over 14 minutes into the match, the Mountain Cats got their offensive attack going.
 
James beat Cal U goalkeeper AJ Visco to the top right corner in the 22nd minute to give Pitt-Johnstown the lead, before Pau Cano finished an assist from James with his team-leading eighth goal of the season 12 minutes later to put the Mountain Cat on to, 2-0 at the half.
 
Pitt-Johnstown held that two-goal advantage until Brady Olsen got the Vulcans on the scoreboard in the 81st minute, abut Tichnell held the lead in goal for the Mountain Cats over the final nine minutes.
 
Tichnell faced 21 shots from Cal U and made nine saves to record his second shutout of the year.
 
AJ Visco took the loss in net for the Vuclans after seeing sis Pitt-Johnstown shots and allowing both goals.  Visco did not make a save.
 
Cal U slipped to 2-9-1 overall and 0-6-0 in the PSAC West.
 
The Mountain Cats visit 24th-ranked Gannon for a PSAC West match Saturday evening, before returning home to host a conference match against Lock Haven on Oct. 29 at 3 p.m.
