Mountain Cats Suffer Senior Day Setback to Slippery Rock

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. — The Pitt-Johnstown women's soccer team could not recover after falling into a first half deficit on Senior Day in a 3-0 loss to Slippery Rock on Saturday afternoon.

Before the match, the Mountain Cats recognized four seniors, goalkeepers Emma Morin and Parker Grimm and defenders Barbara Grimm and Emma Bennethum, for their time and dedication to the program.

Pitt-Johnstown dropped to 2-7-4 (2-7-2 PSAC) and remained in sixth place in the PSAC Western Division with three regular-season matches left. The Rock improved to 10-3 (10-1 PSAC) and remained atop the division.

Slippery Rock scored late in the 26th minute when Abby Paterline found the back of the net on an assist from Lilia Battalini. Battalini then assisted Marissa Salisbury's goal in the 31st minute that made it 2-0. Libby Earley pushed it to 3-0 shortly after intermission in the 50th minute.

After being outshot 12-2 in the first half, the Mountain Cats gave themselves plenty of opportunities over the final 45 minutes by racking up an 11-3 advantage in that category.

Rylee Fry recorded a team-high seven shots, with three of them on goal. Maddie Barrick chipped in three shots, while Sarah Henry had the other shot on goal. Morin played more than 68 minutes and notched five saves. Parker Grimm did not face a shot during her 21-plus minutes in the net.

The Mountain Cats will entertain IUP at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 29 at the Pitt-Johnstown Soccer Field.
