
M'laya Ainsworth scored 15 points, including a pair of free-throws with :06 left to send it to overtime, and
Riley Childress added 14 points, seven boards, and six assists, but Point Park was able to outscore Pitt-Johnstown by five in the extra frame to secure a 73-68 non-conference victory over the Mountain Cats, Sunday afternoon in Pittsburgh. Pitt-Johnstown is now 1-4.
Ainsworth and Childress led a balanced Pitt-Johnstown offensive attack that saw seven Mountain Cats score five or more points. In just her fifth game, freshman
Alyssa Altemus added career-highs of 11 points and five rebounds, and
Camille Dominick had five points and five boards for the Mountain Cats.
Pitt-Johnstown got off to a quick start and opened up a six-point advantage after one quarter. Altemus' layup at 3:17 put the Mountain Cats up by six, before a Childress 3-pointer and Dominick's basket increased it to 17-8 with :50 left. Point Park answered with a layup and free-throw from Alexis Giles to cut it to 17-11.
The Pioneers came out on an 11-4 run to take a 22-1 lead on a bucket from Lexi Adams midway through the second quarter and Point Park was able to hold that lead on go into the half on top 28-27.

After four straight points to begin the second half put the Pioneers in front, 32-27, the Mountain Cats countered with a 13-2 run, capped by a pair of
Sophia Ott free-throws and a
Kate Myers' 3-pointer, to give Pitt-Johnstown a 40-34 advantage at the 3:02 mark. Point Park scored the next five points, but Ott's late jumper gave the Mountain Cats a 42-39 lead going into the fourth quarter.
Pitt-Johnstown extended it to 48-42 on Ainsworth's conventional 3-point play with 7:50 remaining, but Point Park came right back to tie it on a Camille Fultz basket two minutes later. The Mountain Cats rebuilt the lead to 57-49 on two Childress free-throws at 3:19, before the Pioneers scored 10 straight points to tie it at 59 with :26 remaining. The teams exchanged the lead, then Ainsworth nailed two free-throws with :06 to go to send it to overtime knotted at 62.
In the extra period, Fultz's bucket a minute in put Point Park back in front and the Pioneers never gave up the lead. Point Park went on to make 5-of-6 from the line in the final :45 to close out the win.
Pitt-Johnstown was held to 35.2% (25-77) shooting, but connected on six 3-pointers, while holding the Pioneers to 0-8 from behind the arc. Point Park, which made 21-27 from the line, ended the afternoon shooting 41.9% (26-62). The Mountain Cats were 12-16 from the charity stripe.
Fultz posted a game-high 23 points, while Adams had 17 points and seven rebounds, and Elizabeth Boyd tallied 16 points and a game-high 10 boards for Point Park, now 2-0.
Pitt-Johnstown will host a non-conference game against West Virginia State on Tuesday at 3 p.m. in the Sports Center. Following the Thanksgiving break, the Mountain Cats will begin PSAC Crossover-play at West Chester on Dec. 6.
