Mountain Cats Rout Penn State Greater Allegheny

Watts, NickJOHNSTOWN, Pa. — A season-high 14 players secured points as Pitt-Johnstown dismantled Penn State Greater Allegheny 99-57 in a non-conference victory on Tuesday night in the Sports Center.

The Mountain Cats won their third straight game to move to 5-2 ahead of Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference crossover play, which begins Saturday.

Nick Watts led the way with a team-high 12 points, along with seven rebounds, two assists and two steals in 16 minutes off the bench. Redshirt freshman Noah Prosser notched his first career points, connecting on a team-high three 3-pointers to finish with 11 points.

Jay Rose contributed 11 points and three assists, while Baden Forup racked up 10 points and six rebounds in just 11 minutes of action. Adam Bilinsky and Ryan Calo each added nine points.

After the Nittany Lions took a brief 3-2 lead, Vinnie Cugini capped a 12-0 run with a layup to put the Mountain Cats in front 14-3 just four minutes into the game.

As waves of substitutions began, the lead only swelled from that point on. Prosser put Pitt-Johnstown up 38-13 with a fastbreak layup with about five minutes left in the first half. The Mountain Cats went up by as many as 32 in the first half before carrying a commanding 49-18 advantage into the locker room.

Holding a comfortable 62-27 lead, nearly all of Pitt-Johnstown's regulars checked out after the first five minutes of the second half to give the reserves extended minutes. They took advantage of it by going up as many as 44 in the final minutes when Adam Barton drilled a three.

The Mountain Cats had a 52-28 advantage in points in the paint, 30 points off of 19 Penn State Greater Allegheny turnovers and a 14-1 edge in second chance points. Pitt-Johnstown finished 60% (21 of 35) from the field, 38.5% (10 of 26) from beyond the arc.

Elijah Hannon scored a game-high 24 points for Penn State Greater Allegheny, which fell to 0-2 on the year.

Pitt-Johnstown will open up PSAC crossover play at West Chester in a 3 p.m. tip-off on Saturday, Dec. 6.
