Pitt-Johnstown strung together eight runs over the final three innings to notch a come-from-behind 11-8 victory in game one before falling 12-6 in the nightcap in a doubleheader against Bloomsburg on Friday afternoon.
The Mountain Cats closed the day at 5-9 overall.
Aiden Coleman (3-1) earned the win on the mound after throwing four innings and giving up five earned runs on five hits with four strikeouts and two walks.
Zac LeGars led off the first with a single and Justin Turcovski was hit by a pitch one batter later before Devon Boyles ripped a double to give the Mountain Cats a 1-0 advantage.
Erik Rhodes slapped a two-RBI single to extend it to 3-0. Bloomsburg answered with one in the first and then collected four runs in the third to go up 5-3.
However, the Mountain Cats practiced patience to strike for five runs on four hits in their half of the fifth. Cam Donaldson singled and advanced to second on an error. LeGars and Alex Ebeling walked to load the bases before Justin Turcovski walked to pick up an RBI and bring home Donaldson.
LeGars scored on a wild pitch and Boyles recorded an infield single to score Ebeling and give the Mountain Cats the lead for good.
Brody Roberts and Nathan Helms cracked back-to-back RBI singles to push the lead to 8-5.
Helms then picked up a rare two RBI on a sacrifice fly in the seventh that made it 10-5. Crafty base running from LeGars helped Roberts, who reached on an error earlier in the inning, score and provide the Mountain Cats with a six-run cushion with just three outs to get.
While Bloomsburg struck for three runs in the seventh off reliever Antonio Caporossi, Cole Sansom came on in relief to get the final out and secure the save.
Daniel Koppisch was charged with the loss for the Huskies, who ended the afternoon at 7-7.
Despite outhitting Bloomsburg 11-8 in game two, Pitt-Johnstown never strung enough of them together to bounce back from a 3-0 deficit after one inning.
The Huskies posted a run apiece in the second and fourth innings that was sandwiched by a three-spot in the third that left them with an 8-0 lead after four innings.
But the Mountain Cats never quit, punching back for six runs on seven consecutive hits in the fifth, all coming with two outs, to cut the deficit to 8-6. After an RBI single from Roberts put the Mountain Cats on the board, Turcovski unloaded for a 3-run homer to bring home Roberts and LeGars, who singled earlier in the inning.
Boyles and Rhodes each had base hits before Karson Reffner doubled to right center to score them both and trim it to 8-6.
The Huskies quelled any thoughts of a comeback with three runs in their half of the fifth and another run in the sixth.
Zach Myers took the loss for PItt-Johnstown after surrendering six earned runs on five hits with two strikeouts and three walks.
Pitt-Johnstown wraps up the four-game series with Bloomsburg at home on Saturday with a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. from Point Stadium.
