Pitt-Johnstown could not keep pace with an explosive Frostburg State offense in an 18-8 non-conference setback on Tuesday afternoon at Bob Wells Field.
The Mountain Cats racked up 13 hits during the 9-inning affair, but slipped to 7-14 overall (0-4 PSAC).
Seven pitchers recorded at least two outs for the Mountain Cats. Roman Donis suffered the loss after giving up two hits and two free passes and being tagged for three runs, one earned.
Zach Myers started and threw two innings, surrendering three runs, one earned, on five hits with two strikeouts and a walk. Garret Holzapfel, Zach Slis, McClain Flinn, Luke Lea and Antonio Caporossi also spent time on the mound.
After going down 2-0, Pitt-Johnstown immediately responded with two runs in the second thanks to a 2-RBI single from Nathan Helms.
Frostburg State took the lead back in its half of the second, but it didn't last long. Justin Turcovski led off the third with a walk, stole second and moved to third on a passed ball. Devon Boyles followed with an RBI base-hit to knot the game at 3-all.
The Bobcats, however, took the lead for good with three runs on a pair of hits in the third.
Helms reached on an error in the fourth and later scored when Cam Donaldson reached on an error to make it 6-4, but it was as close as the Mountain Cats would get to tying the game.
Frostburg State broke it open with seven combined runs over the fifth and sixth innings to push its lead to 13-6.
Three straight singles, including an RBI-base hit from Boyles trimmed it to 13-5. After Joey Maun was hit by a pitch, Alex Ebeling cracked a 2-RBI single to bring home Boyles and Turcovski to put the Mountain Cats within 13-7. Aidan Steinbugl capped their most productive inning with an RBI single to score Maun.
Kamden Sowers picked up the win on the mound for the Bobcats, who improved to 14-7. He gave up one unearned run on one hit in 1 2/3 innings.
