
Ben Tomb allowed just one run on one hit in six innings, and
Devon Boyles belted a two-run homer to lead Pitt-Johnstown to an 8-3 win at the University of Charleston on Sunday. The Mountain Cats, now 4-8, took three-of-four from the Golden Eagles.
Dakota Miller's sacrifice fly in the bottom of the first scored Damian Witty to give Charleston an early lead.
Pitt-Johnstown struck for four in the top of the third off Golden Eagles' starter Tyson Willis to take the lead.
Justin Turcovski led off with a double to right, and
Devon Boyles followed with a long home run to left to put the Mountain Cats on top, before
Joey Maun and
Cam Donaldson delivered two-out RBI singles to make it 4-1.
The Mountain Cats loaded the bases in the sixth and used sacrifice flies from Maun and Donaldson to increase it to 6-1.
Charleston got a run back in the bottom of the seventh with an RBI single off
Brian Pirone, but Ferguson was hit by a pitch with the base loaded and Turcovski followed with a bases loaded walk to push it out to 8-2 in the eighth.
Tomb, now 1-1, went the first six and didn't allow a hit or run after the sacrifice fly in the bottom of the first. Tomb struck out four and walked one. Pirone tossed the last three innings and allowed two runs (1 earned) on two hits, while fanning three and walking one to earn his first save.
Boyles went 2-for-5 with the two-run homer, and Maun and Donaldson each had a hit and drove in two for Pitt-Johnstown.
Logan Ferguson and Turcovski collected one hit and an RBI apiece.
With the loss, the Golden Eagles dropped to 5-11.
Pitt-Johnstown will make its 2025 home debut on Saturday with a non-conference doubleheader against Bloomsburg at Point Stadium, before traveling to Bloomsburg for a pair of games on Sunday.
