Mountain Cats Walk-Off Opener to Split PSAC Doubleheader with Lock Haven

Johnstown, Pa.

Rhodes, ErikA dramatic walk-off walk lifted Pitt-Johnstown to 5-4 comeback win in the opener before it dropped a 12-2 decision in game two to split a PSAC doubleheader against Lock Haven on Friday afternoon at Point Stadium.

The Mountain Cats wrapped the day at 12-24 overall (4-14 PSAC).

Game One—Pitt-Johnstown 5, Lock Haven 4

After giving up four runs in the first, the Mountain Cats locked in to shut out the Bald Eagles over the final six innings.

Tied at 4-all, Alex Ebeling led off the seventh with a double and Stephen Rodgers came on as a pinch-runner. Justin Turcovski was hit by a pitch and Logan Ferguson singled to load the bases for Erik Rhodes, who drew the walk to score Rodgers and seal the win.

Seth Shuey picked up the win after tossing two scoreless innings in relief. Starter Aiden Coleman threw five innings, giving up four runs, two earned, on five hits in five innings of work.

Rhodes helped spark the Mountain Cats in the second with a leadoff walk. Karson Reffner was hit by a pitch, and Steinbugl laid down a bunt to move them both up before Crusen Stover stroked an RBI single to make it 4-1. Reffner later scored on a passed ball to cut the deficit to 4-2.

Turcovski belted a single to start the third and stole second. Following a walk and a sacrifice bunt, Rhodes brought home Turcovski with an RBI groundout that trimmed it to 4-3.

The Mountain Cats finally tied it in the fourth after Stover cracked a double that scored Steinbugl, who walked to begin the inning.

Game Two—Lock Haven 12, Pitt-Johnstown 2

Pitt-Johnstown found itself in an early deficit and couldn't quite pull enough hits together to get back into the game.

Lock Haven notched a solo home run in the first and tacked on three more in the third on five hits to go up 4-0.

Pitt-Johnstown got one back in the bottom of the inning when Brody Roberts reached on a fielder's choice and scored on Ferguson's RBI double to left.

After neither team scratched the scoreboard in the fourth and fifth, the Bald Eagles scored four in the sixth and four more in the seventh.

Tyler Danko worked a bases-loaded walk in the seventh to cap the scoring.

Brian Pirone took the loss after surrendering four runs on eight hits with six strikeouts and two walks in five innings. Antonio Caporossi, McClain Flinn and Luke Lea all spent time on the mound for the Mountain Cats in relief.

Pitt-Johnstown will wrap up the four-game series with a doubleheader at Lock Haven on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m.
