
Erik Rhodes and
Brody Roberts combined for five hits and seven RBI, to help Pitt-Johnstown jump out to an early lead and deal Mansfield a 15-7 non-conference loss, Tuesday afternoon at Point Stadium. The Mountain Cats are now 13-26.
Luke Raho scored on a bases loaded passed ball in the top of the first to give Mansfield a 1-0 lead, but the Mountain cats answered with four runs in the bottom of the second, highlighted by Roberts' three-run double to right field.
The Mountaineers cut it to 4-3 with a pair of unearned runs in the top of the third, before Pitt-Johnstown used Rhodes' RBI double and
Karson Reffner's two run double to right-center in a four-run bottom of the frame to push it out to 8-3.
After Mansfield scored two in the fourth and one in the fifth to narrow it to 8-6, an RBI single from
Justin Turcovski and Rhodes' two-run double gave the Mountain Cats an 11-6 advantage.
Pitt-Johnstown tacked on four more in the seventh and went on to the eight-run victory.
Rhodes went 4-for-5 with 2 doubles and three RBI and Roberts added a double and four RBI in Pitt-Johnstown's 11 hit attack. Turcovski had two hits and an RBI, while
Cam Donaldson and Reffner each drove in two.
Garret Holzapfel picked up his first win of the season after holding the Mountaineers scoreless on one hit in 1.1 innings.
Zyler Freedman started and surrendered three unearned runs on two hits over the first three innings.
Raho was 2-for-4 with a double, and RBI, and two runs for Mansfield.
Shane Stossel started and took the loss for the Mountaineers, now 13-24, after allowing four runs on two hits in 1.2 innings.
Pitt-Johnstown will start a four-game, home-and-home PSAC series at Indiana (PA) on Friday, before hosting the Crimson Hawks for a pair of games on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Point Stadium.
