Pitt-Johnstown dropped a 6-0 decision in game one before suffering an 11-4 defeat in the nightcap and a Senior Day sweep at the hands of IUP on Saturday afternoon at Point Stadium.
The Mountain Cats slipped to 13-30 (4-20 PSAC) with five games remaining in the regular-season. Before the first pitch, seniors Antonio Caporossi, Noah Donis, Garret Holzapfel, Joey Maun, Zach Myers, Zach Slis and Seth Shuey were honored for their committment to the program.
Game One—IUP 6, Pitt-Johnstown 0
A scoreless tie through three innings was broken up in the fourth by IUP. The Hawks plated four runs to take the lead for good.Â
Pitt-Johnstown recorded its first and only hit one inning later in the fifth when Erik Rhodes singled with one out. The Mountain Cats had two other base runners via walks, one by Alex Ebeling in the third and one by Brody Roberts to lead off the fourth.
Starter Ben Tomb gave up just two hits through the first three innings, but was charged with the loss. He scattered nine hits with five strikeouts and no walks in five innings of work. Roman Donis allowed two runs, one earned, on three hits with two strikeouts in two innings of relief.
Game Two—IUP 11, Pitt-Johnstown 4
After IUP got a run in the first, the Mountain Cats matched it with one of their own. Justin Turcovski singled with two outs before Devon Boyles lined an RBI triple to make it 1-1.
The Hawks went on top with two in the third before the Mountain Cats tied it again in the fourth. Rhodes led off with a double and advanced to third on a groundout.
Maun was hit by a pitch and stole second to set up Nathan Helms, who doubled to score Rhodes and cut it to 3-2. Cam Donaldson drove in Maun with a sacrifice fly to knot it at 3-3.
Pitt-Johnstown grabbed its first lead when Turcovski singled, stole second and eventually scored on a two-out single from Rhodes.
However, IUP struck for eight runs on five hits in the sixth to pull away late. Shuey was stuck with the loss, giving up six runs on three hits in one inning of relief.
Jimmy Kunst received a no-decision, going 4 1/3 innings with two strikeouts. Rhodes gave up two earned runs in an inning of relief and Zach Myers also spent time on the mound.
Pitt-Johnstown will visit Division I Kent State for a non-conference matchup on Tuesday beginning at 6 p.m.
