
Ellie Zuro Cirino collected a career and match-high 19 kills, and
Caroline Knight added 11 kills to lead the Pitt-Johnstown volleyball team to a four-set victory over the hosts in Friday's first round of the 2025 Frostburg State (MD) University Invitational. The Mountain Cats remained un beaten and raided their record to 5-0.
Pitt-Johnstown jumped out to a quick two-set lead with 29-27 and 25-22 wins. The Bobcats answered with a 25-18 win in the third set, but the Mountain Cats close it out with a convincing 25-16 win in the final set.
Zuro Cirino hit .280 on her way to the 19 kills, while adding six digs and a block assist, while Knight finished with 11 kills, a block solo, two block assists, and four digs to lead Pitt-Johnstown.
The Mountain Cats also got eight kills, two block solos, three block assists and a service ace from
Mallory Pinske, eight kills from
Brooke Pelloni, and seven kills, two solo blocks, and three block assists from
Dannika Susko.
Abby Berry posted a match-high 45 set assists, 10 digs, a pair of block assists, and an ace, while
Jessica Krug had a match-best 16 digs, and
Avery Koontz chipped-in 11 digs, and three aces for the Mountain Cats.
Frostburg State, which slipped to 1-3, was led by Dani Kunkle's 11 kills and eight digs, and Devin Bunk's 11 kills, 13 digs, and four block assists.
The Mountain Cats will finish the Frostburg State Bobcat Invitational with matches against Shippensburg and Ohio Dominican on Saturday, before traveling to the Indiana (PA) Invitational next weekend. Pitt-Johnstown will then begin PSAC West-play against IUP on Sept. 23 in the Sports Center.
