JOHNSTOWN, Pa. — Sophia Ott recorded 12 points and a team-high seven rebounds, and Pitt-Johnstown put together a dominant first half performance on the way to a wire-to-wire 69-47 victory over Millersville in a PSAC crossover matchup on Friday afternoon.
The Mountain Cats earned their first conference win of the season and moved to 4-8 (1-4 PSAC).
Senior guard Lexi Margolis went 4-for-5 from beyond the 3-point arc and finished with 12 points, three assists and two rebounds. M'laya Ainsworth racked up eight points, four assists and four rebounds, while Angel Ezirim tallied a season-high points and grabbed five rebounds.
Margolis drilled a 3-pointer that capped a 10-0 run to open the game. That lead eventually swelled to 13 near the end of the quarter, when Ezirim went 1-for-2 at the free-throw line to make it 17-4. Aubree Price drove inside and scored to afford the Mountain Cats a 19-6 lead after one.
Pitt-Johnstown's lead was never threatened after that as it ventured on a 9-2 run, highlighted by back-to-back threes from Margolis, to grab a 28-8 advantage.
It was all Mountain Cats over the final six and half minutes of the half, when they embarked on a torrid 18-3 flurry that boosted the lead to 46-15 heading into the break.
That lead grew to as many as 35 early on in the third on Ott's layup at the 7:17 mark. With waves of substitutions for both teams beginning early, the Mountain Cats 58-35 lead into the fourth quarter and coasted from there.
The Mountain Cats finished 42.9% (24 of 56) from the floor, and enjoyed their best performance of the season from beyond the 3-point arc with a 46.4% (13 of 28) mark. Additionally, a season-high eight players made at least one three.
They scored 22 points off 25 Millersville turnovers and held the Marauders to 30% (18 of 60) from the field and without a made 3-pointer on 19 attempts. Morgan Mahoney scored a team-high 11 points for the Marauders, who fell to 4-6 (0-6 PSAC).
Pitt-Johnstown hosts Shepherd at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 3 in the Sports Center.
