The Pitt-Johnstown men's and women's basketball teams are back in the Sports Center Wednesday evening when they host a PSAC Western Division doubleheader against Seton Hill. The women will tip off at 5:30 p.m. with the men's games against the Griffins scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
The Pitt Johnstown women come it at 6-12 overall and 3-8 in the PSAC under Head Coach
D'wan Shackleford-Vickroy following Saturday's, 75-60, home loss to eighth-ranked Gannon.
Liv West scored 15 points, while
Lexi Margolis (13 points),
Angel Ezirim (12 points), and
Riley Childress (10 points) also scored in double figures for the Mountain Cats.
Third-year Head Coach Maeve Gallagher and the Seton Hill Griffins slipped to 13-4 overall and 9-2 in the PSAC after suffering an 80-65, setback at Edinboro on Saturday. Helene Cowan had a game-high 20 points, and Mia Kalich added 14 points and a game-high 12 rebounds to lead four Griffins who scored in double figures.
Pitt-Johnstown and Seton Hill have split the last eight meetings between the teams, but the Griffins took a pair of games from the Mountain Cats last year. On Jan. 29 in the Sports Center, Seton Hill held off Pitt-Johnstown, 76-67, before earning a 78-61 victory in Greensburg in the regular season finale on Feb. 26.
Belle Bosch had a game-high 20 points and eight rebounds, and Childress added 17 points for the Mountain Cats. Cowan and Hailee Ford had 17 and 14 points, respectively to pace the Griffins.
Head Coach
Bob Rukavina's Pitt-Johnstown Mountain Cats come in at 10-9 overall and 4-7 in the PSAC after Saturday's, 112-86, loss to 10th-ranked Gannon in the Sports Center.
Baden Forup collected career-and game-highs of 29 points and 20 rebounds, and
Will Kromka added 16 points and five boards for the Mountain Cats. Pitt-Johnstown also suffered an 84-79 loss at Clarion on Jan. 17 despite Forup's 25 points and 18 rebounds and
Vinnie Cugini's 20 points.
Seton Hill, under fourth-year Head Coach Ben Wilkins, is 13-6 overall and 7-3 in conference-play. The Griffins are coming off of an 81-72 setback at Edinboro on Saturday. Rashaad Williams had 17 points and Edir Ortiz collected a double-double of 16 points and 12 rebounds against the Fighting Scots. The Griffins also defeated Slippery Rock, 88-62, on Jan. 17 behind Curtis Kedrick's 21 points and 13 boards and Williams' 21 points.
Since first meeting during the 2006-07 season, Pitt-Johnstown holds a 27-12 advantage in the series. Last year, the teams split a pair of PSAC West games. On Jan. 29,
Ryan Smith poured in a career-high 35 points and pulled down eight rebounds, and Forup had 20 points and a game-high 11 boards to led the Mountain Cats to a 100-97, double overtime victory in the Sports Center. Seton Hill answered with a 77-62 win in the regular season finale in Greensburg on Feb. 26. Ryan Meis scored 22 points and Gabe Gillespie added 20 points and 10 rebounds for the Griffins. Forup's 17 points and Smith's 12 points led the way for Pitt-Johnstown.
The Mountain Cats will travel to PSAC West doubleheaders at California (PA) on Saturday and Slippery Rock on Feb. 7, before hosting a conference doubleheader against Indiana (PA) on Feb. 11 in the Sports Center.
