After suffering a tight, 6-4, loss in Friday's opener of a four game, non-conference baseball series against East Stroudsburg at the Cal Ripken Complex in Aberdeen, MD on Friday, Pitt-Johnstown's second game of the doubleheader was suspended due to fog in the top of the fifth inning with the Mountain Cats on top, 2-0. That game will be completed at 11 a.m. on Saturday prior to the start of the regularly scheduled doubleheader.
In the opener,
Brody Roberts' sacrifice fly in the top of the second scored
Tyler Danko to give the Mountain Cats an early lead.
After East Stroudsburg tied it on Parker Frey's leadoff homer in the bottom of the frame, Danko answered with another sacrifice fly in the top of the third to give the lead back to Pitt-Johnstown.
The Warriors got to Mountain Cat starter
Aiden Coleman for four runs in the bottom of the fourth, including Walter Zampella's two-run double, to go on top, 5-2.
East Stroudsburg, receiving votes in this week's NCBWA Division II National Poll, added one more in the fourth on Shanley Wall's RBI single.
Trailing by four in the top of the seventh, Pitt-Johnstown loaded the bases with two outs and
Calvin Iseminger delivered a two-run double to left field to chase home
Alex Ebeling and Roberts to narrow it to 6-4. However, Jake Albert was able to get the final out to earn the save and preserve the win for the Warriors.
Along with Iseminger's two-run double, Roberts and Danko each had a hit and drove in one for the Mountain Cats.
Coleman took the loss for Pitt-Johnstown and slipped to 0-1 after surrendering six runs on six hits over the three innings.
Zyler Freedman,
Adam Radkowski, and
Vinny Chirdon held East Stroudsburg scoreless on two hits over the final three innings.
In game two, Zac Legars doubled home Ebeling and Roberts to give the Mountain Cats a 2-0 lead in the top of the third.
It stayed that way until the fog forced the game to be suspended.
Pitt-Johnstown's
Brian Pirone allowed just three hits in four shutout innings. Pirone struck out four and walked a pair.
Pitt-Johnstown will conclude the series against East Stroudsburg in Aberdeen, MD on Saturday, before traveling to Cary, NC next weekend to take on Wilmington (DE), Dominican (NY) and Pace (NY).
