
Meghan McDonough drove in two, and
Mia Smith fanned nine in a complete-game effort to lead to Pitt-Johnstown softball team to a 3-0 win over Bluefield State (WV) in Saturday's season-opener at the Triangle Classic in Raleigh, NC.

The Mountain Cats put runners on first and second to start the game and
Jessica Pugh delivered an RBI single that drove home McDonough to give Pitt-Johnstown a quick lead.

It stayed that way until the sixth when the McDonough connected for a two-home run that gave the Mountain Cats a pair of insurance runs.

Smith did the rest in the circle for Pitt-Johnstown. Smith scattered five hits, all singles, struck out nine and walked two to pick up the complete-game win.

McDonough went 2-for-3 with a homer and two RBI, Pugh had two hits and drove in one, and Smith helped her cause with a double in three at-bats.

Paige Whittington had two of the five hits for Bluefield State, now 0-7 to begin the year.
