SALEM, Va. — Brynnae Coe belted a two-run home run, and
Jessica Pugh and
Mahlon Yonkin each had two hits and drove in a pair to lead Pitt-Johnstown to a 7-5 win over Winston-Salem State (NC), in the first of four non-conference games in Virginia.
The Rams jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, but the Mountain Cats responded with three in the bottom of the frame and two more in the second.
Meghan McDonough walked to lead off the bottom of the first and scored on
Jessica Pugh's one-out RBI single, before Yonkin delivered a two-run single that chased home Pugh and
Taylor Lupfer.
Pitt-Johnstown, which evened its record at 4-4, added two more in the second on an RBI double from
Isabella DePalma and Pugh's sacrifice fly to make it 5-1.
Winston-Salem State battled back to cut it to 5-4 with three runs in the top of the fourth off of Yonkin, but the Mountain Cats added two more insurance runs in the sixth.
Sara Solberg singled to start the inning, moved to second on


McDonough's sacrifice bunt, and Coe followed with her first homer of the season.
After Rams added an unearned run in the seventh, Yonkin was able to work out of the jam to finish the complete game and improve to 3-1.
Yonkin allowed five runs — four earned — on eight hits, while striking out four and walking just one.
Coe went 2-for-3 with the two-run home run, and Pugh and Yonkin each had two hits and drove in two for Pitt-Johnstown. DePalma also doubled and had an RBI for the Mountain Cats.
Morin took the loss for the Rams after giving up seven earned runs on nine hits.
Ailiyah Rodriguez had two hits and two RBI, and Morin chipped-in two hits and drove in one for Winston-Salem State, now 2-3.
