Pitt-Johnstown, now 10-14, ran into some strong pitching and struggled to get the offense going in a 5-0 non-conference setback to Bloomsburg, Tuesday afternoon at Point Stadium.
Â
Grant Russo and Matt Freda were each hit by pitches from Mountain Cat starter
Ethan Porreca to open the game. After a double steal put runners on second and third, Drew Balestrini followed with a sacrifice fly to right field, scoring Russo and giving Bloomsburg the early lead.
Â
It stayed that way until the seventh when the Huskies added three more runs. Russo led off with a solo home run to left-center off Riley Roskop to make it 2-0. The Huskies then loaded the bases off of
Adam Radkowski and Justin Weaver lined a two-RBI single to left field, plating Miller and Balestrini.
Â
Bloomsburg added an unearned insurance run off of
Seth Coleman in the ninth on Weaver's a two-out RBI single to left.
Â
Alex Ebeling,
Lucas Muffie, and
Aaron Smearman accounted for the three Pitt-Johnstown base hits.
Â
Porreca suffered the loss and fell to 0-2 after giving up the run in the top of the first. Despite giving up five runs, seven Mountain Cat pitchers combined to hold Bloomsburg to five hits.
Â
Four Huskies combined to record the shutout and help Bloomsburg improved to 11-6.
Â
Pitt-Johnstown gets back into PSAC West action when they host a doubleheader against Slippery Rock to begin a four-game, home-and-home series, Friday at 1 p.m. at Point Stadium. The teams will conclude the series on Saturday in Slippery Rock.
