Mountain Cats Beat Georgian Court Behind Eight-Run First Inning

Minich, TateWindber, Pa. — Junior Tate Minich crushed a first-inning grand slam as Pitt-Johnstown erupted for eight early runs in an 8-5 weather-shortened, six-inning victory over Georgian Court on Saturday at Windber Sports Complex.

The Mountain Cats took the rubber match of the three-game non-conference series and improved to 9-6 on the season.

Eight different players recorded at least one hit as part of an 11-hit flurry in the first that began with back-to-back singles from Alex Ebeling and Lucas Muffie. Calvin Iseminger slapped a single before Karson Reffner made it 2-0 with a 2-RBI single.

Jacob Cramer singled to reload the bases before Minich unloaded on a 2-2 pitch that cleared the left field wall to put the Mountain Cats up 6-0.

After Aidan Steinbugl doubled to restart the onslaught, Ebeling and Muffie recorded back-to-back base-hits for the second time to push it to 7-0. Zac LeGars capped the inning with a RBI double.

Georgian Court scored a run in the second and two apiece in the third and sixth innings to get within three. However, following the last out of the top of the sixth, heavy rain and lightning cut short a game that was moved away from Point Stadium earlier in the day.

Jared Dowey earned the win on the mound, throwing five innings and giving up three runs on four hits with five strikeouts and five walks. Ben Tomb worked the sixth in relief and allowed two earned runs on one hit.

Ryan Bilello gave up all eight runs and took the loss for Georgian Court.

Pitt-Johnstown will open a four-game weekend series at Millersville with a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 14.
