CLARION, Pa. — The Pitt-Johnstown women's soccer team came up short in a tight 1-0 loss to Clarion in a PSAC West battle on Saturday night at Memorial Stadium.
The Mountain Cats dropped to 1-5-2 (0-4-2 PSAC) on the year, while the Golden Eagles improved to 4-2-2 (3-2-2 PSAC).
Clarion's Nadia Gill scored the only tally late in the 18th minute off assists from teammates Samantha Gold and Leah Deal.
Pitt-Johnstown recorded seven total shots, three in the first half and four in the second. The Mountain Cats had a chance to respond less than eight minutes later when Kaitlyn Pavusek put a shot on goal that was saved by Clarion goalkeeper Sage Sherk.
The Mountain Cats created another prime scoring chance early in the 86th minute when Marissa Mackey broke free and sent a shot to the top right corner of the net that was denied by Sherk.
Gianna Cardillo spent all 90 minutes in the net and notched one save. Pitt-Johnstown's defense limited Clarion to just 11 total shots, three on goal. Pavusek and Nicole Hawk led the Mountain Cats with two shots apiece.
Pitt-Johnstown will visit Lock Haven at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday in another PSAC West matchup.
