Pitt-Johnstown women's soccer fought toe-to-toe with the Bald Eagles for more than 40 minutes in a PSAC West matchup Wednesday night before a late first-half strike proved to be the difference, as the Mountain Cats fell 1-0 at Lock Haven's Hubert Jack Stadium.
Freshman Madelyn Pfaff paced the Pitt-Johnstown attack, firing a team-high five shots — two on frame — including three second-half tries that tested Lock Haven goalkeeper Devon Mason down the stretch. MJ Labinjo, Taylor McChesney and Sarah Henry each added a shot on goal as the Mountain Cats out-attempted the Eagles in the second half, 8-5.
Lock Haven's Colleen Lloyd broke the deadlock at the 41:43 mark, redirecting a feed from Sydney Linus past Pitt-Johnstown goalkeeper Gianna Cardillo for her second goal of the season. It was the only goal the Eagles could muster despite a 5-3 shot advantage of their own for Lloyd, who also rang one off the right post in the second half.
Cardillo turned in a steady performance in goal for the Mountain Cats, making four saves over the full 90 minutes and denying two more Lock Haven bids from Lily O'Brien in the second half to keep her team within a goal until the final whistle.
Pitt-Johnstown finished with 10 total shots to Lock Haven's 11.
The loss drops Pitt-Johnstown to 1-6-2 overall and 0-5-2 in PSAC play. Lock Haven improved to 5-4-0 overall and 4-3-0 in the conference.
Pitt-Johnstown returns home to host a PSAC Match against Gannon on Saturday, , before traveling to face Edinboro on October 2 for another conference match.
