Pitt-Johnstown goalkeeper Gianna Cardillo made eight saves, but two second-half goals from Gannon University proved decisive as Pitt-Johnstown fell 2-0 in a PSAC West match on Saturday afternoon at Pitt-Johnstown Soccer Field.
The Mountain Cats (1-7-2, 0-6-2 PSAC) kept the game scoreless for the first 48 minutes, but Gannon (5-2-2, 5-2-1 PSAC) finally broke through in the second half to secure the win.
Cardillo was the story of the match for Pitt-Johnstown, making eight saves across the full 90 minutes. She turned away shots from five different Gannon players, including back-to-back stops on Brooklyn Respecki in the first half and a late save on Lydia Knepp in the closing minutes, keeping her team within striking distance throughout.
Gannon finally cracked the scoreboard in the 48th minute when Grace Emanuel finished a feed from Olivia Dixon to make it 1-0. The Golden Knights struck again just over three minutes later, in the 51st minute, when Dixon returned the favor, scoring off an assist from Emanuel to push the lead to 2-0.
Offensively, Kristen Horgan led the Mountain Cats with two shots, including a bottom-center attempt in the closing minutes that Gannon keeper Alwa Wennstroem turned away. Maddie Barrick also had a pair of shots, one of which forced a save, while Ava Kitner and Taylor McChesney each added a shot.
Gannon held a 24-6 advantage in total shots and a 10-2 edge in shots on goal.
Pitt-Johnstown continues PSAC West play on the road, traveling to Edinboro on Friday to Indiana (PA)Â to face IUP on Oct. 7.
