Mountain Cat Golfers Open Fall Season With Ninth-Place Finish at Red Bandanna Invitational

The Pitt-Johnstown men's golf team opened the 2026-27 season with a ninth-place finish out of 11 teams at the Division I Red Bandanna Invitational, hosted by Boston College at the Kaluhyat Course at Turning Stone Resort on Sunday and Monday. The Mountain Cats posted rounds of 317-314-321 for a 54-hole score of 952 (+88).

Giovanni Vezza and Kooper MacKay tied for 27th place out of 66 golfers to pace Pitt-Johnstown. Vezza carded rounds of 78-74-81 for a 233 (+17), while Mackay matched him stroke-for-stroke at 77-79-77, also totaling 233 (+17).

Eli Ropietski was next among the Mountain Cats' counting scores, tying for 46th after rounds of 81-80-84 for a 245 (+29).

Lucas Smith and Toby Osborne rounded out Pitt-Johnstown's counting scorers, each tying for 50th place at 249 (+33). Smith shot 81-84-84, while Osborne opened with an 89 before rallying with rounds of 81 and 79.

Playing as an individual entrant, Griffin Hansberry shot 84-76-77 for a 237 (+21) to tie for 38th place.

Harvard won the team title at +12 (876), outdistancing runner-up Sacred Heart by 10 strokes. Harvard's Barry Zhang claimed individual medalist honors, firing a 1-under 215 to edge teammate Jonathan Hartono, an individual entrant who finished at even par.

The Mountain Cats return to action Sept. 21-22 at the University of Charleston (WV) Pines Collegiate Invitational in Morgantown, W.Va., before hosting the Sunnehanna Collegiate Sept. 28-29 at Sunnehanna Country Club in Johnstown
