Shippensburg Ends Lady Cats' Season With Win in Regional Tournament

Marissa Erminio had10 kills and 14 digs to lead fifth-seeded Pitt-Johnstown in the Quarterfinals of the NCAA Division II Women's Volleyball Regional Volleyball Tournament in Wheeling, W.Va. on Thursday, but it wasn't enough, as fourth-seeded Shippensburg swept the Lady Cats 25-20, 26-24, and 25-19 to advance to the semifinals. The Lady Cats closed out the 2013 season with an overall record of 26-10.
 
Beth Kendera added eight kills, while Kelsey Shanabrook had six kills and 10 digs in the loss.
Allison Mondorff also collected 26 assists, and Katie Svetahor had 19 digs for Pitt-Johnstown..
 
After falling behind 10-4 in the opening set, the Lady Cats battled back with a five point run to make it 10-9. However, the Lady Raiders were able to keep the lead and win the set 25-20.
 
Karen Schmidt scored five straight points that included three service aces that put Pitt-Johnstown in front, 13-10, midway through the second set.  The Lady Cats extended it to 23-19, but Shippensburg clawed back to knot it at 23.  Pitt-Johnstown scored the next point to regain the lead, but the Lady Raiders sealed the set by scoring the last three points to earn the 26-24 win.
 
In the final set, Shippensburg jumped out to a 17-12 lead and advanced to the semifinals with a 25-19 victory.
 
Jill Edwards led Shippensburg with 14 kills and nine digs, while Laura Plank finished with 15 digs.  Maura Nolan also tallied a game-high 32 assists, while Gabbie Holt collected 13 digs to for the Lady Raiders.
 
Shippensburg advances to the Regional semifinals to take on the winner of the No.1-seeded Wheeling Jesuit (WV)-No. 8-seeded Fayetteville State (NC) match on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
