Men's Soccer Opens WVIAC Play With Win at OVU

Derik Swope (Harleysville, Pa.) and Zeke Buchta (Mount Pleasant, Pa.) each found the back of the net to lead the Mountain Cat soccer team to a 2-0 win at Ohio Valley (WV) University in Wednesday's 2011 WVIAC opener. Pitt-Johnstown improved to 3-1-0 overall and 1-0-0 in conference play.
Swope scored off of Buchta's assist in the ninth minute to put the Mountain Cats up 1-0, before Buchta notched a goal of his own in the 62nd minute to set the final at 2-0.
Mike Cuccaro (Pittsburgh, Pa.) earned his second shutout of the season in goal after facing 18 shots and making seven saves. Cuccaro raised his record to 3-1-0. Spencer Widlicka made three saves, but surrendered both goals for Ohio Valley.
The Fighting Scots slipped to 1-3-0 overall and 1-1-0 in the WVIAC.
The Mountain Cats travel to Concord (WV) University for a WVIAC match on Saturday, before hosting a conference match against Davis & Elkins (WV) College on Tuesday at 4 p.m. at the Pitt-Johnstown Soccer Field.
