Mountain Cats Fall at Home to Alderson-Broaddus

10/01/2011

Alderson-Broaddus (WV) College raced out to a 3-0 first half lead and held on to hand the Mountain Cat soccer team a 3-2 conference loss, Saturday afternoon at the Point Stadium. Derik Swope (Harleysville, Pa.) and Josh Wentz (Wallenpaupack, Pa.) scored the goals for Pitt-Johnstown, now 5-4-0 overall and 3-3-0 in the WVIAC.
It didn't take Alderson-Broaddus long to get on the scoreboard. Satwant Dhaliwal gave the Battlers a 1-0 lead two minutes in when he dribbled through a pair of Mountain Cat defenders and beat goalkeeper Mike Cuccaro (Pittsburgh, Pa.).
Alderson-Broaddus added two more first half goals on headers off of corner kicks to make it 3-0 at the break. Brandon Coleman took Chris Doran's corner and scored in the 24th minute, before Jose Noriega scored on a header on another Doran corner 16 minutes later.
Pitt-Johnstown cut the deficit to 3-1 two minutes into the second half on Swope's penalty kick goal.
The Mountain Cats then pulled to within one on Wentz' goal in the 88th minute, but it was a little to late for Pitt-Johnstown.
Cuccaro took the loss in goal for the Mountain Cats after allowing all three goals. Cuccaro faced 13 shots and made four saves. Josh Teets earned the win for Alderson-Broaddus after allowing two goals and making seven saves on 13 Pitt-Johnstown shots.
With the win, the Battlers improved to 2-7-1 overall, and 1-2-1 in the WVIAC.
The Mountain Cats are scheduled to host a non-conference match against Shippensburg University on Tuesday at 4 p.m., before traveling to the University of Charleston (WV) for a WVIAC match on Sunday.
