Men's Soccer Shuts Out Concord, 3-0

09/28/2008

Jason Swope (Indiana, Pa.) tallied a pair of goals and Craig Neff (Elizabethtown, Pa.) earned his second shutout in as many days, as the Mountain Cat soccer team dealt WVIAC rival Concord (WV) University a 3-0 loss, Sunday afternoon at the Pitt-Johnstown soccer Field. Pitt-Johnstown is now 5-5-0 overall and 2-2-0 in conference play.
Swope put the Mountain Cats up 1-0 when he beat Concord goalkeeper Chris Owens on Vince Spillane's (Pittsburgh, Pa.) through ball in the fifth minute. Pitt-Johnstown held that lead until the 67th minute when Swope notched an unassisted goal on a breakaway. Eleven minutes later, Cory Winwood (Harwick, Pa.) set the final score at 3-0 after dribbling through several defenders and finding the back of the net.
Neff, who now has four shutouts this season, faced 10 shots and made five saves to even his record at 5-5-0. Owens suffered the loss after facing 22 shots and making seven saves.
With the loss, Concord fell to 2-6-0 overall and 1-5-0 in the WVIAC.
Pitt-Johnstown travels to Salem International (WV) University for a WVIAC match on Wednesday and to Waynesburg University for a non-conference match on Saturday. The Mountain Cats will return home to host WVIAC foe Seton Hill University on Monday, October 6 at 4:00 p.m.
