Men's Soccer Suffers, 2-0, Home Loss to California (PA)

The Mountain Cat men's soccer team, ranked eighth in this week's NSCAA/Adidias Appalachian Region poll, trailed 1-0 at halftime and surrendered another late goal in a 2-0 home loss to California University (PA), Tuesday afternoon. With the loss, Pitt Johnstown dropped to 5-2-0 on the year.
The Vulcans took a 1-0 lead on Michael Luecke's header that beat Mountain Cat goal keeper Craig Neff (Elizabethtown, Pa.) in the 22nd minute. California (PA) held that lead until the 88th minute when Felipe Souza found the back of the net off of a rebound shot by Shakir McCoy to set the final score at 2-0.
Neff faced 17 shots and made six saves, but fell to 5-1-0, while Derek Yobbi and Charlie Dagnel combined to face 17 shots and make eight saves in the shutout.
Junior forward Jason Swope (Indiana, Pa.) had four shots and two shots on-goal to lead the Mountain Cats. Senior forward Chris Hawkins (Scottdale, Pa.) also had a pair of shots on-goal in the loss.
With the victory, the Vulcans improved to 4-3-2 on the season.
Pitt Johnstown will host WVIAC rival Alderson-Broaddus (WV) College on Saturday at 2:00 p.m., before traveling to the University of Charleston (WV) for another conference on Tuesday.
