East Region #6 Lady Cats End Regular Season With 70-47 Win Over UDC

Senior forward Jessica Zapf (Pittsburgh, Pa.) collected game-highs of 22 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Lady Cats, ranked #6 in the East Region, to a 70-47 win over the University of the District of Columbia in Wednesday evening's regular season finale in the Sports Center. Head Coach Jodi Gault's team wrapped up the regular season with four straight wins and a 20-7 record.
The Lady Cats will wait to see if they earn the program's 16th NCAA Tournament bid. Pairings for this year's tournament are scheduled to be released on Sunday at 10:30 p.m. Audio and video streaming of the selection show can be accessed by logging on to www.ncaasports.com/dii or www.ncaasports.com.
Zapf finished her final game in the Sport Center shooting 7-11 from the field and 8-8 from the free-throw line. Coach Gault also got a career-high 15 points, including 5-7 from three-point range, from sophomore guard Lindsey McCombie (Nicktown, Pa.) and 10 points and eight rebounds from red-shirt sophomore forward Krista Britcher (Johnstown, Pa.). Senior forward Jami Oaks (South Fork, Pa.) added nine points and a career-high nine rebounds, while senior guard Allison Krischer (Johnstown, Pa.) and sophomore forward Lindsay Cale (Hummelstown, Pa.) chipped in six points apiece.
With her 22 points, Zapf remains in 13th place on the Lady Cat All-Time Scoring List with 1,286 points. Zapf also climbed into fifth place on the All-Time Rebounding List with 842 career rebounds. She is now five rebounds away from tying Terry Solema (1981-85) for fourth place on the rebounding list. Krischer stands in 20th place on the scoring list with 1,156 career points.
Pitt Johnstown broke open a 15-15 tie 12 minutes into the game with a 20-6 run to take a 35-21 halftime lead. The Lady Cat never looked back. Pitt Johnstown extended the lead to as many as 25 points on two occasions, before cruising to the 23-point win.
The Lady Cats connected on 44.1% (26-59) from the field and 33.3% (6-18) from behind the three-point line, while holding U.D.C. to just 20-61 (32.8%) shooting from the field and 3-13 (23.1%) from three-point range. Pitt Johnstown also made 12-12 from the free-throw line, while the Firebirds were 4-5 from the line.
Jennifer Jones' 15 points led U.D.C. Ashley Alexnader scored eight points and grabbed five rebounds and Jessica Edwards pulled down a team-high six rebounds for the Firebirds, who ended the season with a 13-16 overall record.
