Pitt-Johnstown could not match the firepower of nationally ranked Gannon in a 76-41 loss in its home finale on Saturday afternoon at the Sports Center.
The Mountain Cats dropped to 3-23 (1-18 PSAC) with only one game remaining.
Junior Lexi Margolis provided team-highs of 10 points, eight rebounds and three steals. Riley Childress and Camille Dominick each added eight points and combined for three steals.
The Golden Knights, who shot 9-for-11 from the field in the first quarter, notched the first nine points of the contest and never looked back. Margolis, however, reduced the deficit to 13-8 with the first of two 3-pointers on the day at the 4:32 mark of the opening quarter.
Pitt-Johnstown was down just seven in the final minute after a layup from Dominick. But a 3-pointer from Gannon's Maddy Wheatley put the Mountain Cats in a 22-12 hole heading into the second.
It never got any easier to keep pace over the next 10 minutes as Gannon methodically took control. A 9-0 run to end the half sent Pitt-Johnstown to the locker room down 43-19.
Gannon, which came in ranked No. 23 in the Coaches Poll and No. 25 in the D2CSC Poll, shot 57.7% from the field, 45% from distance and 63.6% from the free-throw line. Pitt-Johnstown, meanwhile, was held to 28.6% from the floor, 20% from beyond the arc and 75% from the free-throw line.
Bri Claxon recorded a game-high 15 points for the Golden Knights, who moved to 23-5 (15-4 PSAC) after already securing a spot in the upcoming PSAC Tournament. Â
Pitt-Johnstown will wrap up the 2024-25 season at Seton Hill on Wednesday in a 5:30 p.m. tip-off.
